Chisako Hardie has taken Balfour’s funds as part of an enlarged role at the firm and will be supported by the global sector team, which the firm recently bolstered with the appointment of Bruno Grandsard as a portfolio manager.
Balfour joined Axa from Baillie Gifford in 2004. The £59.5m Axa Framlington Japan fund has fallen 12.5% in the past three years compared with a 3.4% fall in Investment Management Association (IMA) Japan sector.
Hardie has managed the Axa Framlington Japanese Smaller Companies fund since its launch in September 2006. Hardie joined the firm earlier that year from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.
