Gartmore Investment Management has launched a new hedge fund for European manager John Bennett.

Bennett joined from Gam last year, initially to take over Roger Guy and Guillaume Rambourg’s long-only European equity funds at Gartmore.

The Gartmore AlphaGen Pan-European Equity Hedge fund, which launched yesterday, will be managed in a similar style to the European Equity Hedge fund he ran at Gam.

The hedge fund is Gartmore’s first to be launched as a sub-fund of a Dublin-domiciled Qualified Investor Fund umbrella. (article continues below)

Gartmore says the decision to domicile the fund in Dublin was made owing to possible requirements arising in the forthcoming Alternative Investment Funds Directive and because there is increased investor demand for alternatives funds to be domiciled in European jurisdictions outside Britain.
